Participants will learn:
- What do we mean by impairment?
- Where does the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) come in?
- What type of individual might be the subject of such an assessment? Examples.
- Performance problems that seem related to stress or adjustment.
- The role of outside input or demands.
- Fitness for duty comparisons.
- Legal issues or concerns.
- Differences regarding the evaluation of managers or professionals.
- Possible tools or methods that may be needed for an evaluation.
- Termination or disciplinary actions.
About the Presenter
Gary R. Schoener, M.Eq., LP, PsyBar LLC
Clinical Psychologist, licensed since 1974 in Minnesota. Executive Director of the Walk-In Counseling Center (www.walkin.org ) for 37 years. Currently Director of consultation & training. the cener is the only program in the Upper Midwest to have received the American Psychiatric Assn.'s Gold Achievement Award in Hospital & Community Psychiatry.
Principal, Gary R.Schoener Consulting. Author of many articles, book chapters, and two books (e.g. ASSISTING IMPAIRED PSYCHOLOGISTS) and for 13 years served on the American Psychological assn.'s Task Force on the Impaired Psychologist. Frequent expert witness, consultant, and speaker. Was the 2010 Traveling Professor for the Royal Australia & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists which involved a lecture tour of both countries.
