About the Presenter
Facilitator – David Coles
David Coles has worked with KBR’s corporate internal Employee Assitance Program since 1991, and now serves as the program’s Global Senior Manager. He manages all facets of the internally-staffed, “assessment and referral” model employee assistance program and he supevises a 20-person clinical staff.
David serves as a subject matter specialist for crisis management activities, including Critical Incident Stress Debriefings (CISD), is a member of the company's team for responding to threat of violence situations, is a member of KBR’s team for worldwide crisis response to incidents such as hostage-taking, employee job-related deaths, riot/insurrection and in-country evacuations. Additionally, he oversees the company’s multi-million domestic managed behavioral health care (MBHC) carveout and the company’s several specialized EAP vendors serving employees worldwide.
He has presented numerous times on the subjects of critical incident response, death and serious injury family notifications, and workplace violence abatement.
David is a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) and is a Certified Employe Assistance Professional (CEAP). Additionally, he is a member of the Cy Fair Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and is a member of the City of Houston Disaster Mental Health Crisis Response Team.
About the Program
This 1-hour course provides information for front-line EAP counselors and program managers who work in "client contact" functions. It provides information that EAP counselors can share with employees who work in customer contact functions for the EAP’s client companies (e.g., human resources, receptionists, recruiters, supervisors, etc.). The presentation will include:
- Scope of the problem
- Characteristics of potentially violent people
- Sources of threats
- The nature of violent incidents
- Preventative factors
- Interacting with and de-escalating angry people
